First of all, happy birthday, America!
You’ve done a lot of good for the world in the last 249 years. God willing, we’ll be here to celebrate number 250 next year!
I was fortunate enough to spend most of the week in Cabo with my friend, James. Started the week off with half days of work, followed by golf in the evenings.
By Thursday, it was golf from sun up, until sun down. If the sun was hitting this beautiful earth, I was on the golf course.
It’s been a few years since I did something like this and I must say it was important for me to do so. A few things that really stuck out:
- I normally struggle falling asleep. Golfing in the heat all day focusing on nothing but getting the ball in the hole and keeping hydrated makes it incredibly easy for my mind to shut down at the end of the day.
- I have struggled with my game for a few years while still playing pretty good once and awhile. While I “lost my swing” in the middle of this trip I was reminded of just how (pissed off at times lol) resilient I can be as a golfer. Just gotta keep grinding. Just do my absolute best on the next shot.
- I still get really heated when I am unable to calm or focus my mind. I don’t allow myself to do it for very long but I’m not afraid of a good club-throw or three. Golf is a great reminder of where I’m at mentally. I did OK overall, but lost my shit a few times.
- I thrive in situations where others around me benefit from my golf knowledge. When I’m playing like shit it’s nice to be able to help pull someone else up. I was able to help James a few times while I couldn’t keep the ball on the planet and it was nice to get back to the cart knowing I was doing some good.
- I am, we are, going to fall to the level of preparation not rise to our capabilities the vast majority of the time. My mind focuses on my capabilities especially in golf and my body, my muscle memory, has a different plan. I end up standing over the golf ball having no idea what the hell to do and if you golf you know the ball normally doesn’t go where it’s supposed to if you’re not prepared.
As I got back to Houston and settled in I started to get some work done with the above five things in mind.
This week myself and Phil get to meet two of our longest standing automotive clients which we’ve never even met in person!
Two guys from completely different organizations, cities, and backgrounds with one thing in common. They’re on Team Fountain Fucking Forward!
These guys have vouched and referred dealers to us for years in an industry that keeps things close to the chest.
We’re going to spend time with them to not only deepen our relationship but inform them where we’re going before we tell anyone else. And when we do that, we’re going to ask them to break it down so we can build it back up even better again.
They know we want to be the best and we want real feedback.
This begins week two of three on the road which ends in Colombia next week with our Technology and Innovation team. As I’ve said to Chris, my business partner… We’re building some incredible stuff here at Fountain Forward and I don’t know enough about our technology.
I don’t know enough about the team members building the technology. So, I want to get to know them and I want to do it in person.
“Hey Angie, I want to come see you and the T&I team. Can I come to Medellin in a few weeks?”
Of course, she said yes.
I love me some Angie. She is a wonderful human and someone I’m looking forward to learning from next week.
By the time I write again I’ll be flooded with feedback from this week’s trip and prepping for Colombia.
This life is moving fast and while I’m feeling a sense of wandering I’m also certain that I’m doing at least a few things right.
Chin up, shoulders back.
It’s Kentucky week!
