A Slam Dunk Start to 2026

What a week. Started the week in Minneapolis, hung out in Stevens Point during the middle of the week, then got back to Houston for a few days. As this blog is posted I’ll be packing to go back to Wisconsin again.

Dad is rehabbing well. Had someone mention that it sounded like he is in rehab for alcohol/drugs so I’ll clear it up, it’s a physical rehab facility. My dad loves a cocktail but it’s his body that’s broken right now, not his liver lol.

First of all, I got to see two of my very best friends this week. It all started with Team USA vs Slovakia in an all-out duel! I had a blast with not only Mike & Carrie but also Elizabeth’s family. USA got themselves into a hole early down 0-2 but they lit the lamp in the second period and never looked back. It’s been awhile since I got to watch hockey with Mike and it reminded me of how much fun we have!

Second, I had a great New Year’s Eve. I spent it with my dear friend Matt at the gym, shoveling snow, hanging out with my dad, and of course a few beers and some junk food. Matt and I have a long standing relationship with an ample amount of ups and downs. The past few years have brought a ton of life changes for Matt and I. The loss of my mother brought out Matt’s true colors. He is nothing short of selfless when I need him most. I’ve taken some time to really digest his efforts and it’s truly humbled me.

You’re a class act, Matt. Thank you.

Next up it was back to Houston and back into my normal lifting routine… Lifting with Nick Baker in the morning. It was great to be back and it was great to catch up. Do we always finish all of our lifts? No, lol. Do we always learn something new about each other? Absolutely! Following the Sunday lift I was fortunate enough to meet and hang out with Nick’s (and Tannah) newborn baby, Cooper.

Man, I have to say, I really love how beautiful new born babies are. Pure love. I can see that Tannah and Nick are going to be great parents. The energy in the room was impeccable. Thanks again, Nick. It was great to be Uncle Stevie!

The weekend ended with a bunch of grounding exercises… Home ownership. I don’t like doing a ton of work around the house but I do like keeping things nice and manicured. I enjoy taking care of the nice things I’ve worked hard to purchase or build.

That comes from my parents, especially my dad.

It’s been a great start to 2026 including some much needed golf where I started out the year with a great round. It was a ton of fun getting caught up with my buddy Hong but also playing with two guys I know pretty well but haven’t played with much.

I participate in “Dry January” every year and it’s definitely a reminder each year that while alcohol is really fun, it does take a toll. I’m very clear minded right now and I’m performing at a high level. This is something that I think about every day as I do Dry January.

I’m having a wonderful Monday to start out 2026 and I’m grateful for this feeling. It’s time to get back to my father in Wisconsin tomorrow as we look forward to the next chapter.

Thanks to all the readers that reached out to me in 2025. The lessons I’ve learned mixed with your takeaways have meant a lot to me. You are appreciated.

Let’s all say it…

Chin up, shoulders back. Forward!
