Strike Like Saint Mike

First of all, I’m super appreciative of the week I just had. I built a LOT of character for sure, and it was painful. I struggled.

I felt a lot of different emotions this week. I felt highs when I was in Cleveland and hiring our next salesman, and lows as I battled for peace, good decisions, and understanding.

I played my favorite tournament of the year, the Highland Swing, with my buddy Matt Weber.

The positive news: I found my putting stroke!

What a feeling!

Putting was fun again, which was a pleasant surprise. I “found my stroke” the day before the event when I got back from Cleveland, and I was like a little kid on Christmas!

The not so fun news: I didn’t play very well overall, and neither did my partner.

The great part was, we still almost made it to the horse race. We were close.

Coming into our first day, I had an awful night of sleep, and then my emotions on the golf course were all over the place. My personal life was my focus while trying to grind on the golf course.

If you golf, you know that rarely works out well. I especially need to focus to achieve my goals on the golf course otherwise, other shit creeps in pretty quickly.

Matt and I both had some memorable moments and shared some great memories with members and guests.

Looking forward to giving it another shot next year.

It was my first week back “in the office” in Houston, but it ended up being all over the place. The trip to Cleveland went great, and there may be a partnership opportunity going forward, which is fun.

By the time I got back to normalcy, I was out of the office most of Thursday and all of Friday.

Again, fun times, but hard for me to keep work momentum going, which bothers the hell out of me.

As the weekend went on, I felt an even bigger urge to go see my father in Florida.

Just something told me I needed to visit him.

Sunday, I headed to Florida for a few days.

During the first quarter of the Packers game, I pulled up to my sister’s house and walked in without him knowing.

Best decision of my week, besides changing my putting stroke, of course lol.

On Sunday night he and I sat down, one on one, and just chatted for an hour before bed.

Before we started talking, I walked into the guest room to get set up for a few days. The stuff from my mother’s Celebration of Life was in front of me for the first time since that day.

Hit me like a ton of bricks. I sat looking at the posters and “Tree of Life” for about 15 minutes. I couldn’t help but feel her beauty. I just sat there and admired it.

Back to the convo with my father…

I unpacked what is going on in my life and how I think I’m handling everything.

I told him I’m pleased with a lot of my decisions and boundaries, and displeased with others.

I explained some of the exciting stuff happening with the OEM’s and, in the same breath, some of my struggles with growing the companies.

I shared excitement in my relationships and, in the same breath, I shared concerns and tough decisions in front of me.

I mentioned I felt like I’ve been setting expectations of other people and need to lower my expectations. Not because other people aren’t capable, but because setting goals can often originate in fear.

As always, he said some wise words.

Take it all in, breathe as Rex told you, and keep moving forward.

That’s what I did last night and going into today. I must say, I woke up today with a lot of anxiety.

It’s been a minute since I’ve felt weight on my chest like this.

I can tell it’s a combination of work, mourning, personal struggles, and everything in between.

Regardless of how I feel, I have people that depend on me, and I need to be great today.

I have a big week of work ahead, and I get to start the week off working from my dad’s place in Naples.

It’s good to be here.

Chin up, shoulders back. Strike down the devil like St. Michael.
