If you’ve met me, which most of you that read this have, you know I’m very transparent. That’s the whole point of this blog. This blog was meant for me to write about my experiences, my thoughts, and of course life’s lessons.
This week I travel to a brand new region of the US deepening some new relationships. It’s a lot of work, but I meet with countless people at each location and it reminds me that as we’re growing companies, we’re growing and optimizing people.
As soon as I walk in the door, I am greeted by the receptionist. She plays an integral role in our growth. Then maybe I meet the GM or Owner, he/she plays an integral role in our growth. Then, maybe it’s a service manager, sales manager, porter, the list goes on. My godmother told me that if I greeted each one of these people with genuine interest and a smile I would be able to set the atmosphere in the room. It really works.
So, that’s going on and while I’m very excited and appreciative, I’ve also been in a lull as of late. Fighting loneliness, a small health issue, and struggling with purpose. I had a conversation with a friend this past week about all the exciting stuff going on in my life and how loneliness/suffering can still sneak in.
The framework to “feeling better” is there, but often the execution is much harder than normal. This has been one of those times. Words from others, while appreciated, often ring hollow. I share these feelings because every single one of us is going to have to fight out of a lull more than a few times in our lives.
With that all said, I have a good feeling about this week. I am primed and ready to see a lot of great people and dammit I’m going to push the shitty thoughts aside and bring the smiles.
Something tells me that when I least expect it, someone is going to give me some great perspective. Maybe it will be at one of my hotels, or maybe in an Uber. Maybe in Central Ohio, or maybe in Chicago.
One thing I know for certain is that writing this helped me. I hope it helps you too.
Until next time.
