There’s plenty of room for your smile

As I began last week in what I would call a “non-ideal” headspace (to say the least) I focused on a good routine and spent a little more time with my nucleus both in-person and on the phone.

I found myself feeling low, but no longer depressed. I was worried, but not depressed.

I was at the gym on Friday morning and I just found myself giving more “head-nods” and smiles than I normally do. I’m always fairly positive in the gym but maybe Friday was a manifestation of what I was looking for in the world.

I had a few people that I never really talk to and who normally have a straight or frowning face change into a bright smile after I hit them with a genuine smile.

The thing is, I wanted them to be happy. If I smiled at them and they didn’t smile back, that’s ok with me. But, I was feeling pretty good so why not try and share it.

As I continued on with my weekend I got to play golf with my buddies on Saturday morning. As we walked 18-holes together I told them two or three times how much I appreciated them sharing their time with me and just how much joy it brings me.

You see, no matter how much joy you create there is still an unlimited amount left to generate.

It’s not give and take… It’s there anytime you want to create it and doesn’t remove anyone else’s joy.

As I finished the weekend I spent nearly the entire time outside working on my yard. There is so much beauty in my yard but the amount of time and care I’ve put-in was not enough.

If I wanted my yard to give me a smile, I first needed to be kind to it.

Four hours later I had trimmed bushes, flowers without weeds, and my jasmine had a nice guide to crawl up for the rest of the summer.

Sure enough, when I was all done, I just sat outside smiling as I felt like my yard was smiling back.

There’s plenty of room for a smile, so why not be the first to do so.

Have a great week.
